Malic enzyme, an “old-new player” in age at maturity in Atlantic salmon

چکیده
Traditional genetic markers based on allozyme variation had indicated that in Atlantic salmon the found for locus coding mMEP-2* could be adaptive, with being related to river water temperature, growth, and maturation. More recently, SNP panels used search genes maturation identified several genes, including vgll3 gene early However, none of analyses performed an association between already known mMEP-2*. Recently, a method has been developed characterize different alleles using molecular techniques. In this work we use study population Bidasoa River, located Iberian Peninsula, which is limit distribution species. We relationship presence G, equivalent 125* allele, both males females. It possible not direct but produced by differential growth during juvenile and/or adult phase. also plausible exclusive populations Peninsula.

متن کاملThe vgll3 locus controls age at maturity in wild and domesticated Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) males Short title: The vgll3 locus in salmon controls age at maturity
Wild and domesticated Atlantic salmon males display large variation for sea age at sexual maturation, which varies between 1-5 years. Previous studies have uncovered a genetic predisposition for age at maturity with moderate heritability, thus suggesting a polygenic or complex nature of this trait. The aim of this study was to identify associated genetic loci, genes and ultimately specific sequ...

متن کاملSalmon lice increase the age of returning Atlantic salmon.
The global increase in the production of domestic farmed fish in open net pens has created concerns about the resilience of wild populations owing to shifts in host-parasite systems in coastal ecosystems. However, little is known about the effects of increased parasite abundance on life-history traits in wild fish populations. Here, we report the results of two separate studies in which 379 779...
